LNS4095D 40" LCD TV Reviews
My last monitor was a Samsung 4063 DLP(which I loved) which could not fit in my Manhattan apt...so I splurged for a LCD to hang. I originally had my eye on a plasma (the Panasonic everyone recommends or this Hitachi I saw in a bar). I went to Circuit City & Best Buy to see for myself and this monitor blew any and all plasmas out of the water...It didn't matter if I stood 10 feet away or if I stood on the other side of the store, the color and picture jumped off the screen. Be careful when buying this tv....it will expose all of your crappy video. DVDs which looked fine on my 4663..suddenly looked awful..it prompted me to buy an HD DVD. Xbox 360 output (and so is the PC via HDMI) is phenomenal!
The LNS4095D is one of the best values in a 40" 1080p LCD, if you are willing to overlook the flaws. Great deals are available if you look around. The 1080p display is beautiful, and has one of the most vivid pictures on the market. However, the bright picture comes at the expense of some light leakage in the corners of the display when you are viewing a dark picture.Others have also complained about the sound quality. The bottom-firing speakers aren't bad, but if you aren't sitting directly in front of the TV, the sound is hollow. It sounds like you are listening in a cave.Lastly, the menu is aggravatingly slow. When you press a button, you have to be patient while you wait for the next menu to come up. The power button is just as slow. Many times I have accidentally turned the TV off and back on, because I didn't think that the TV recognized the first time I pressed the power button. In the end, I returned the TV because I didn't want to have any regrets about what I bought. I exchanged it for a Sony KDL-40XBR2.
Much of the time it's as good as a movie theater. Bright pictures like CSI, Sports, and DANCING W/T STARS are gorgious. But if the scene is dark, the lowlights without detail aren't black but mud. I've never complained of such with a CRT or at a movie where such is present but lesser so and not annoying.
I have had this Samsung one week and I am 110% satisfied. This is a great LCD and now coming toward the end of the product year you can pick this up at a GREAT price. I did alot of comparison and by far the SAMSUNG outperformed all LCD I saw in its class including SONY.
I am not a big fan of the remote but it's an easy fix, get a unviersal remote. Along with that, the infrared has to be pretty dead on to communicate with the tv. It can be a little frustrating. Picture-in-Picture only seemed to work when I was using an input besides cable. I could get a cable picture inside one of the composites. If you are a big channel surfer than you are going to need patience. The tv seems to take a good bit of time to change channels.Overall, I am very pleased with the tv. Not a lot of 1080p televisions on the market and this one is a great deal. I was lucky enough to get BestBuy to match an online deal and I got it for $1675 before tax. |
